Types of Chinese Writing Paper

Types of Chinese Writing PaperChinese writing paper comes in many forms. There are different styles and colors for the paper itself, and different methods of making the paper in different sizes and shapes. The most common variety is made from a single sheet of hard material that is coated with ink. This is also referred to as a dot-matrix.A more common method used for making the paper is to cut out a strip of paper into thin strips. The ink is put on the top and middle of the strips, and then it is glued to the paper in a thin layer. The dot matrix printers come in a wide variety of colors, making it possible to use any color you want on the paper. This is because the paper can be printed in full color, black and white, or in single-color.Paper types include; Braille, dot matrix, dot printer, and inkjet. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. When the dot matrix is used to print paper, the ink itself reflects light. This allows different colors to be used in a very smooth man ner. In contrast, when using a dot printer the dye used is high enough to reflect light, but it is still only one color.Inkjet printing works much the same way as a dot-matrix, except there is no need for the dot matrix to be folded to allow light to reflect. Instead, the ink is fed directly into the printer without folding over. Another big advantage of this type of printing is that the paper is laid on its side, rather than laying flat. Using this method, it is possible to lay out large sheets of paper, unlike the dot-matrix method which needs to be laid down on a flat surface.Dot-matrix paper will take more practice to get right, however the result will be more realistic looking when printing text and images. Both styles of printing are easier to work with when it comes to dot-matrix papers, but Braille paper is more difficult to work with. It takes a special font and symbol set to make the paper read as the Braille people expect.A very common style of printing is called bonded m atrix. With this process, paper is coated with ink in a thin sheet that is then fused to a single sheet of paper. The layers are placed one on top of the other, with each layer being slightly thicker than the one beneath it.For Chinese writing paper, this method of production is not nearly as time consuming as using dot-matrix. Bonded printing can be done with far less paper than dot-matrix, making it more economical. Also, the bonding between the layers is stronger. However, the cost of bond paper will make it more expensive than dot-matrix paper. The three main methods of producing paper are traditional dot matrix, dot-matrix, and bonded printing. Although they are all different, each one can be used for various styles of printing.

Red Rock West :: essays research papers

Red Rock West is a hood case of another age film noir. It has all the components that are expected to make a film noir, for example, light and dull difference, representative condition, the femme lethal, debasement, injustice, and trickery. The film is not normal for exemplary noir as a result of its utilization of shading, incongruity, and cleverness in the film.      In the initial scene we get a feeling of what Michael resembles. He is driving a pontoon of a vehicle over the fruitless desert, similar to he is searching for something. Lashed for cash he stops at a to some degree surrendered corner store where he finds a heap of twenty dollar notes out on display. We get the feeling that he attempts to be straightforward in light of the fact that he doesn’t take the cash and he purchases gas with the last five dollars that were in his wallet, sufficiently only to get him to Red Rock and no further. He at that point gets diverted down from his activity since he came clean about his leg being harmed. At the point when he goes into the Red Rock Bar we can see the adjustment in his life coming. He strolls in from the brilliant sunshine into the dimness of the faintly lit bar. This lighting indications to the crowd that starting there on Michael is destined for fiasco.      From there on the story’s most significant scenes occur around evening time. For instance when Michael hits the individual in the street around evening time when it is storming heavily. He despite everything gives some what of a still, small voice to take him back to the medical clinic. There is some lighthearted element on the grounds that each time he leaves and enters the town they give an indication of either entering or leaving Red Rock. Regardless of how diligently that he attempts to leave the town he just can’t do it, something consistently comes up. The most representative settings would need to be toward the end when they are in the cemetery uncovering the cash that Wayne had covered. It was dim with haze covering the ground and they are driving up in a totally dark vehicle. The crowd can see that this will be the peak of the film since these components are meeting up.      Suzanne’s character is the one with the most exciting bends in the road as a part of her character. We discover that she is extremely imperfect from the asking when she is seen submitting infidelity with another man.

The Portrayal of Power in Anton Chekhov’s Selected Stories and Heinrich Böll’s The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum - Literature Essay Samples

We often attribute power, when not wielded properly, to destruction and downfall. The concept of power plays an essential role in both Heinrich Bà ¶ll’s The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum and Anton Chekhov’s Selected Stories, but each author portrays the idea in different light. There is contrast between the satirical and light-hearted approach to 19th century Russian society’s perception of power, depicted through Chekhov’s stories, and the serious tone compounded with heavy irony and sarcasm employed by Bà ¶ll to criticise his characters’ abuse of institutional power and power of authority in post-World War II Germany. In The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, the excessive power of the German yellow press is directly responsible for the demoralisation and ruin of the novel’s protagonist. â€Å"†¦the News had transformed his statement that Katharina was intelligent, cool and level-headed into ‘ice-cold and calculating.’† Words and statements are intentionally manipulated by the newspaper to generate controversy, and the story is maliciously blown out of proportion into a full-fledged â€Å"conspiracy.† Bà ¶ll once stated that â€Å"words can be more destructive than punches and pistols.† This is indeed the case as Katharina’s entire life is utterly destroyed by headlines.Bà ¶ll criticises sensationalist media’s one-sided distortion of facts and unnecessary slander through his mimicry of tabloid journalism as a form of pastiche. Yet in the novel, The News is the peoples’ main source of information, therefore its reliability is rarely questioned. The journalist responsible, Tà ¶tges, is able to dismiss his drastic falsifications as merely â€Å"helping simple people express themselves more clearly.† Although language is central to the defamation of Katharina, it is also the only remaining instrument of power she is able to wield. She â€Å"was remarkab ly meticulous is checking the entire wording and in having every sentence read aloud to her as it was committed to the record.† Bà ¶ll describes the absurdity of her request in the eyes of the policemen with distinct sarcasm – a â€Å"regular argument as to definition.† They find this tedious and Katharina is blamed for her own prolonged interrogation. In contrast, a difference in language between the magistrate and Denis Grigoriev in Chekhov’s story â€Å"The Malefactor† demonstrates a substantial power gap between the two characters. Grigoriev is a simple-minded peasant who when asked to stand before the magistrate, is only able to spout out information about his profession. This is of no use to the magistrate, who sees him as a menace, consequently calling him a â€Å"donkey†, â€Å"idiot† and â€Å"fool,† when Grigoriev genuinely does not understand why he has been put on trial. Furthermore, when attempting to justify hi s actions, the magistrate repeatedly orders Grigoriev to â€Å"Stop talking!† and â€Å"Don’t interrupt!† The condescending tone employed by the magistrate when denouncing Grigoriev is reflective of his level of power.Although the story appears to question justice and fairness in the Russian legal system of Chekhov’s time, this is only on the surface. Chekhov, unlike Bà ¶ll, does not entirely sympathise with his powerless character. Grigoriev has a rustic understanding as to the danger of removing nuts from railway lines, as illustrated through the magistrate’s exclamation, â€Å"one of the trains might have run off the track and killed everybody†¦you would have killed them!† There is no distinctive antagonist in the story, unlike in Bà ¶ll’s novel. Although the magistrate wields power over the peasant, the actions of Grigoriev could indeed result in ghastly consequences. Since Grigoriev is unable to comprehend his wrongdoing s, the magistrate’s annoyance and subsequent sentencing is to an extent justified. The overall tone of the story is also light-hearted in comparison to Bà ¶ll’s novel. Grigoriev’s various statements such as â€Å"To prison? Your honour, I haven’t time!† and the magistrate’s increasing frustration in response, generate a substantial amount of humour.Power is not only wielded by people and institutions in Bà ¶ll’s novel, but also strongly abused, particularly by men possessing power of authority. In his characterisation of Katharina, Bà ¶ll presents her as â€Å"extremely sensitive, almost prudish, in sexual matters.† However, Beizmenne â€Å"alleged[ly]† asked Katharina, â€Å"‘Well, did [Gà ¶tten] fuck you?’ † This crude and direct manner of questioning is completely irrelevant to the situation at hand, and serves to explicate the idea of the male gaze throughout the novel. Likewise, the policem en willingly diverge from proper police conduct whilst Katharina is interrogated. The narrator is scornful towards these men, finding their actions incredulous, particularly when Beizmenne loosens his tie, unbuttons his collar and begins to â€Å"not only look paternal but†¦ behave paternally.† The notion that she is being constructed by how men view her is further emphasised by the final line of the chapter where her inability to tolerate these patriarchal actions is interpreted by â€Å"the two policemen†¦ [as] no sense of humour.† In Chekhov’s story, Agafya, the dominance of men and repression of women is also addressed. Savka is an attractive man who is often visited by married women. The narrator states that â€Å"Savka despised women. He treated them carelessly, in an offhand way, and even sank so low as to laugh with contempt at their feeling for himself.† The tone Savka uses in reference to women is blatantly mocking. He remarks, â₠¬Å"they won’t listen; the idiots don’t care.† Yet Chekhov is sympathetic towards Agafya. She, like many other married women were not satisfied with their banal lives, resulting in a desperate need to escape. This is where Savka’s male dominance originates from.Agafya is depicted as a docile young woman at the beginning of the story. She â€Å"faltered, dropping a little bundle she carried and glanc[ed] at me. † Yet Chekhov concludes the story with a twist. Agafya â€Å"jump[s] up, thr[ows] back her head, and advance[s] with firm footsteps towards her husband.† Much like Katharina, it is an act of retaliation. Katharina kills Tà ¶tges to preserve what little amount of feminine dignity and honour she has remaining. Both characters, atypical to that of most females in their time, display no remorse for their actions, and are effectively empowered. In Bà ¶ll’s novel, it is evident that social status also plays a key role in determining the power one possesses. This is shown through the egotistical Alois Strà ¤ubleder, a wealthy industrialist and highly influential politician. He is the embodiment of power in society. Although also closely connected to the police investigation into Gà ¶tten, his treatment by all institutions is drastically different to that of Katharina’s. â€Å"†¦who was going to believe†¦a woman like herself, a domestic, that she would resist [him]?† Despite repeatedly making unreciprocated advances towards Katharina, his name is kept out of the News and the police do not even consider holding or interrogating him. Strà ¤ubleder is thus self-assured and able to confidently state, â€Å"‘The News†¦is no threat.† In fact, when Gà ¶tten is found on Strà ¤ubleder’s property, the newspaper immediately accuses Katharina of â€Å"gambl[ing] the reputation of an honourable man, the happiness of his family, and his political career.† Ironical ly, Else Woltersheim’s partner, â€Å"Konrad Beiters†¦ admitted to having once been a Nazi and †¦this†¦ explained why†¦no one had paid any attention to him.† Not only Konrad Beiters, but Strà ¤ubleder, Là ¼ding and others in the novel with former Nazi affiliations were all exempt from scrutiny and questioning purely due to their elevated role in society.Similarly, in Chekhov’s story â€Å"Lean and Fat,† power is closely associated with one’s place in society; however the individual possessing power instead finds it unseemly to have attention drawn to it. The narrator demonstrates the disparity in power between classes as soon as the two old friends are introduced. The fat man’s â€Å"lips were still buttery and as glossy as ripe cherries† after finishing a scrumptious meal, and in contrast, the lean man â€Å"smells of ham and coffee-grounds.† Once the fat man reveals his title, â€Å"The lean man†¦ paled and stood rooted to the spot†¦he shrivelled and shrank and stooped.† The fat man is highly uncomfortable at being repeatedly addressed as â€Å"your Excellency† so openly by his friend, yet the power gap between hierarchies deems this necessary. Chekhov clearly disapproves of the 19th century Russian preoccupation with social class. This is done cleverly by ridiculing the lean man for his pitiful behaviour. â€Å"The lean man took three fingers of it, bowed with his whole body, and giggled like a Chinaman: ‘Hee! hee! hee!’ † This satirical approach further serves to highlight the insidious nature of power whereby only the mention of fat man’s title wholly changes the lean man’s attitude towards him.â€Å"Power, like a desolating pestilence, pollutes whatever it touches.† It is evident that power is the root of the many issues in both novels. The bitter consequences, such as a loss of friendship and a character†™s utter ruin are all the result of an individual or institution wielding too much power and often abusing this power. Whilst one author emphasises the absurdity of reverence to power and rank, the other condemns those in positions of power for their ability to destroy what little those without significant power possess.

A Brief Note On The And Social Science - 1880 Words

Introduction Ethnographies are very important to social science. They help to dive into different groups and culture s day-to-day lives and learn and understand the way these groups and cultures live on a micro level. This helps those that are interested to better understand the reasons behind why these groups are the way they are and do the things they do. Ethnographies may take many different forms and take form on many different topics. These topics can range anywhere from sororities or fraternities to certain religions or cultures to cults or gangs and to many others. The type of ethnography that will be discussed is one on gangs. Dr. Jody Miller is a criminology professor at Rutgers University s School of Criminal Justice. She is†¦show more content†¦These patterns are explained by risk factors. Risk factors can be life events, living conditions, peer groups, or even the neighborhood a child grows up in. For example, a child that grows up in a house that is located in a rundown neig hborhood. He has no father figure and a mother that is never around. All of his friends have either joined a gang and become a member or hang around gang members. This child would be the most susceptible to end up joining a gang. As I mentioned earlier, this gang involvement leads to delinquency, violence, and/or victimization. Delinquency Delinquency is simply criminal behavior, whether it is shoplifting, doing drugs, fighting, or vandalizing property, delinquency is the act of committing minor crimes. This delinquent behavior is mainly committed by the younger population. All youths can be a delinquent, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they are in a gang. Gang membership is a major gateway for delinquent behavior. Dr. Jody Miller says that studies show that young gang members are responsible for a substantially large proportion of delinquent acts (Jody Miller, 2001). She uses the data from the Rochester Youth Development study, Thornberry and Burch report to back this up. T his study shows that youth gang members, boys and girls, accounted for 86 percent of all serious

Comparison of The Seduction and To His Coy Mistress Essay Example For Students

Comparison of The Seduction and To His Coy Mistress Essay The first poem I will discuss is The Seduction. The poem is about a boy (typical lad, leather jacket, alcohol, drugs and bad manners) taking a girl from a party and taking her down to the lakeside. When they get there he gets her drunk and has sex with her. We then find out 3 months later the girl is pregnant extremely upset by everything. She believed it would all be magical and what all the teenage dream magazines said it would be, but it really wasnt. The characters in the seduction are both very stereotypical. The male character is a typical lad. The male is a very uncaring character who seems to be quite rough. The way he spat into the river shows how he is a disgusting ill-mannered boy. On the other hand we see he is very lonely. We know this because he talks about Where I go by meself with me dads magazines. The dads magazines is referring to pornography and shows he is also possibly sex obsessed. We also see from this that he doesnt talk properly, although, this could just because of an accent he has because of where he is from. The female character is very naive. She believes that having sex and partying and getting drunk will be fun and like the stories from the teenage magazines. We also see she is quite sensitive from the way she was truly truly frightened. We see she is very trusting because she trusted the boy and also she believed all the stupid promises, only tacitly made, There are many themes and issues raised in the seduction. Firstly the issue of sex and how it is not always what people think. The woman believes it is going to be magical and what all of the magazines said it would be, and how a lot of young girls believe this also. Another issue it deals with is teenage pregnancy. Back in the day the seduction was written teenage pregnancy was a lot less common than it is today. It also shows just how easily men get away with getting what they want at the cost of innocent young girls. The theme about love and relationships is shown as one that is easily broken. At the time, the man didnt care about the woman, where as she wanted the perfect night and the teenage dream. There is a very strong use of imagery in this poem. It is heavily used to give the image of the male character. The phrase the frightening scum on the water is referring to the man and calling him scum. Also they describe his eyes as blue as iodine. Iodine is a chemical used in science, that can sting if it comes into contact with a human, they are referring him to iodine because he is bad news, and a bad person. Also the girls high white shoes are imagery used to show her innocence as when she discovers she is pregnant, she breaks them. The structure in the seduction is simple yet effective. It is written in short verses. These short bursts show how the story goes from bad to worse, one step at a time. Also each little section could show how bit by bit, the woman is making a mistake and her life is breaking down. To His Coy Mistress is a poem about a man persistently trying to have sex with the female character. The man does everything he can to get the woman to sleep with him. He tries complimenting her, scaring her and tricking her. He tries telling her how he loves her and how she is still young and should take this opportunity to have sex with him. In To His Coy Mistress we learn a lot about the characters. For example, the male character is put across as a obnoxious, sex obsessed pervert. We know this because the poem shows he doesnt care about the girl, but just having sex with her. .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .postImageUrl , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:hover , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:visited , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:active { border:0!important; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:active , .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227 .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ucf952b75d03081b84d2bbbdc7680b227:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Propaganda poem's EssayHe says my vegetable love should grow, vaster than empires, and more slow. This is supposedly referring to his love for the female, but could also be seen as a double entendre. It also gives the idea that the idea of having sex with her gives him an erection. We also see he is very stubborn and determined. He spends the entire poem saying there isnt enough time and so they must seize the day and have sex. Even when she says no, he still persists. The male in general seems very pathetic. The female character is very innocent because it shows she is still a virgin. She is also very reserved as she doesnt say anything or give any response throughout the entire poem. She could also be very clever, by not having sex with the man she could make him marry her, and that could be what the woman is after. We can also tell she must be very attractive because the man talks about her body and looks in a very complimentive way. To His Coy Mistress raises many key issues about love and relationships, one of this is how sex obsessed and forward men can be. Another is how easily love can be mistaken and faked. The man claims he is in love with the woman when really he just wants to have sex with her. The poem uses many stong uses of imagery. One of these is when the male character sales Thou by the Indian Ganges side. This is implying about the womans beauty because at the time the poem was written the Ganges was a very famous play for beauty and the trade of expensive goods. Another is My vegetable love should grow, vaster than empires, and more slow. This is showing that his love for her is slowly growing to a large amount, but also has a darker meaning. The 2nd meaning is from the vegetable love part and it means that his penis is growing at the site of her. Also the phrase vaster than empires could show he is trying to make his penis sound large and is trying to impress the female character. The sentence let us roll our strength and our sweetness up into one ball shows he is trying to convince her to conjoin with him in one being, or in other words to have sex with him. One ball is meaning one being and how they should be as one. The structure of the poem is very distinct. The way there is no break, and that it is just one long verse shows the mans long, non ending struggle to have sex with the girl, but also how the woman wont give up. The way it keeps going shows that he really wants to have sex with her, and as he keeps persisting, so does the structure of the poem. Both poems have one main similarity and one main difference between them. They are both about love and relationships and also about sex in one way. Both poems show a man wanting to have sex with a woman, but the difference is, in The Seduction, the man succeeds but in To His Coy Mistress, he does not. Both of the male characters are very similar and both are sex obsessed and lonely. The 2 poems view love in a different way. In The Seduction, we see love as something that is discardable and that the man doesnt care. In To His Coy Mistress we see that the man claims to be in love with the woman and if he is it shows that love is a part of sexual relationships. I think the seduction effected me most because it shows just how easy it is for a woman to be tricked into unprotected sex and that men can get away with manipulating women so easily. It also shows just how easy it is for 1 mistake to mess up someones entire life. I think the story line of the poem is shocking cause it shows how the media manipulates people and can ruin lives.
